2008 Election Signs: Way Too Damn Early
The 2008 elections are a year away, right? In November 2008. Then why is this Kwame Brown 2008 election sign up already?
The DC Council elections are not Presidental level contested. There are not a dozen contenders per slot who need to get name recognition by January.
In fact, Kwame will probably not even have competition. So my kind and gentle neighbor, thanks for the thought and activism, but chill the f**k out.
Didn’t we trade him to L.A.?
True, but two things: the "real" election is less than 12 months away. Plus, anyone who paid attention to the 2006 election would conclude that Fenty benefited hugely from front-loading his campaign.
Frankly I don’t care for Brown, and I wish someone would challenge him. But what this city really needs is to get rid of the sham-primaries and have Louisiana-style run-off elections.
I wouldn’t bet on Brown not having competition. There’s usually a challenger in the Democratic primary for the at-large seat. After all, that’s how Brown got onto the council in the first place, by beating Harold Brazil.
And he already has competition in the general, in the form of Adam Clampitt and Dee Hunter — though because of the way the at-large election works they’re really running more against Carol Schwartz.
