Cirque de Soleil coming back to town

Most shows in DC, even the musicals, don’t have a lot of people flying through the air. Everybody more or less just keeps their feet on the ground. To be honest, that’s pretty boring. Maybe someday they’ll do a version of Shear Madness where people bounce around on giant trampolines, but until then, you can get your gravity-defying kicks at Cirque du Soleil‘s new show Corteo which is coming to DC next month. Just like their past shows, this one is sure to feature incredible acrobatics requiring superhuman coordination. Here’s a description of one of the acts in this show: “Bouncing Beds — Like a gaggle of young kids playing in their grandparents’ room, six artists jump on two big beds that move on rotating platforms. In a playful atmosphere, they perform acrobatic feats each more daring than the last.” You know Joey couldn’t have handled that kind of coordination.

You can buy tickets online for shows from Oct. 26 to Nov. 19. If those dates don’t work for you, Cirque just announced that it has added new DC shows from Nov. 22 to Nov. 26. Tickets for these additional shows are currently on sale only to Cirque Club members (membership is free, sign up on their website) and go on sale to the general public on Oct. 1. Corteo will be at the Big Top at the City Center Parking Lot, 909 H Street, NW.

Tickets are pricey, but it’s still way cheaper than flying out to Las Vegas to see the Cirque show at the Bellagio, and certainly less expensive than the medical bills you’d be likely to accrue trying to recreate the show in your living room.
