Jack Mannion is the rebel Chief of Police we all wish DC had. An a-political force of nature, Chief Mannion has no respect for the powers of DC’s City Government, nor, generally for the traditions of police work which upsets his position within the city and eventually gets him fired.
Not to be deterred, Chief Mannion takes a sabbatical, then returns to DC on his Harley (no helmet, natch) and petitions to retake his job. For a while, he runs a vigilante group of off-duty police officers, all the while squatting in an abandoned building that his landlord is pretending to own.
The District was one of the first shows to be shot entirely in HD, and you can often find the reruns on Universal HD on the Comcast and DirecTV providers in DC.
