The Nation’s Triathlon is ON!!

Sports-mad DC, this is it, this is your chance to achieve triathlon history on September 16th, 2006, in very first USAT sanctioned triathlon in Washington DC: The Nation’s Triathlon

After a long summer of begging, pleading, and persuading, Charles Brodsky has convinced the Mayors Special Events Task Group, the DC EMA and in particular the National Park Service and US Park Police that the Nation’s Triathlon will be an amazing event.

How amazing? Let’s read Charles’ email:

The Nation’s Triathlon course is spectacular. The swim begins with a jump from the swim platform of the SS Potomac Belle into the Potomac River at beautiful Washington Harbor. The bike section is a two loop tour of DC from Rock Creek Park through downtown DC and to the Capitol.

The run section passes the Kennedy Center, Jefferson Memorial and the Tidal Basin. The finish line is on the grounds of – and the foot of – the Washington Monument. Every road will be closed by Metro DC Police and US Park Police specifically for the event.

The only drawback? The course design is different, its now a “long-sprint” format with a 1k swim, 32k bike and 8k run.

Now if you’ve been following the story, and you’re pre-registered, you got Charles’ email and you know what you have to do: Register on Active.com before midnight EST Thursday, August 17th.

For the rest of you, those undecided until now, there is a 1,750 competitor cap so check the Nation’s Triathlon website for additional updates we’ll see you at the starting line!
