Major transportation disruptions today
All of this rain has caused major disruptions to the regional transportation network. WTOP has more.
Metro
Federal Triangle station is closed due to flooding, creating an interruption in service on the Blue/Orange lines between Metro Center and Smithsonian. A bus bridge will be put in use.
Archives station on the Yellow/Green lines is also closed.
Roads
A mudslide has closed the Capital Beltway near Alexandria. Flooding is an issue elsewhere too.
A mudslide under the Capital Beltway between Springfield, Va. and Alexandria, Va. shut down the Beltway in both directions when Cameron Run overspilled its banks.
Coming from Interstate 95 in Springfield, you won’t be able to go any farther than Interstate 395. In Maryland, approaching the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, drivers will be diverted off at Interstate 295.
Debris is piled up as high as five feet on parts of the Beltway. The Beltway is very slick. The Virginia Department of Transportation expects to have the Outer Loop opened around 6:30 a.m. They also expect to have two lanes of the Inner Loop open at that time, according to VDOT spokeswoman Joan Morris.
Constitution Avenue between 6th and 17th Streets is closed, as is Rhode Island Avenue between 4th and 6th Streets. Beech Drive is closed from the Maryland line to Rock Creek Parkway.
Trains
VRE is closed.
MARC’s Camden and Brunswick lines are also closed. The Penn line is operating on a modified schedule.
