World Cup Widows?

Over the past few days I have heard at least four times the famous quote by an English coach who said something like “football is not a matter of life and death, it’s much more important than that.”

An English coach? A BLOODY ENGLISH COACH?

What? He’s freaking SCOTTISH, you ponce!

It was none other than the INFAMOUS Bill Shankly who made that misquoted famous statement. The original quote is: “Someone said ‘football is more important than life and death to you’ and I said ‘Listen, it’s more important than that’.”, a quote that is often used in both it’s misquoted and original form. A quote that rings true in the hearts of football fans the world over.

In the eyes of Liverpool, F.C. fans the world over, the most important point in Shankly’s career was his time spent as Manager at Liverpool, F.C. from 1959-1974. Fans who flock to the Kop, home of Liverpool, F.C. can have their picture taken with a bronzed Shankly statute.

Eh, and there’s something, somewhere in the article linked about WC 06 vibrators and short, pvc outfits….

I hate to say it, but I’m glad that the U.S. lost (although yes, they should’ve beat the Italians), as it now means that I’m triumphant on a stupid bet with a fellow football fan.

Ben – I swear, you’d better hire that bodyguard.
