Pleasant-DC-ville

Hello everyone from Naples, Florida – land of the colorful, retired, and high-speed internet-less life. No, I’m having a ton of fun here visiting with my parents and detaching myself from work enough to relax for a week, but still doing the email thing now a few days before returning in order to have less back-logged work when I get home.

I’ve been really taking inventory this year (I visit them down here once a year, typically in March) about all of the unique things that I notice in my DC life and how different life is here. I’ll have something [hopefully] fun and comprehensive in the next week after I get back, but for now the most fun thing is outerwear. I love clothes – I have dreams of quitting my political and corporate life and opening a clothing and accessory boutique somewhere like Naples, or a variety of other places.

That being said, I’m typically pretty bored by DC fashion – not that I’m all that great to watch as far as my clothing choices, but I have to conform a little, right? – but being here makes me eyes so much happier. No, I wouldn’t wear a pair of palm leaf Capri pants, but I love that the women down here have guts to sport just that. Event sitting here in my T-Mobile hot spot, there’s a virtual rainbow of clothing choices, as opposed to the typically sea of navy blue and black I see at home (no, not everyone, I realize this – don’t try to trap me, I’m well aware it’s a generalization). Right now my eye spies: coral (okay, maybe a little too much coral), pink – pastel and bright, black and white polka dots, lime green, bright blue, striped shorts, funky red pants, and the list goes on. I love it!

I don’t know if it’s because a lot of folks are retired and don’t have a need to conform to some sort of navyblueandblack wardrobe requirements, or if it’s just something that comes with living here (i.e. not in the North, which is where I’ve spent my life). Either or any way… I’m diggin’ it. Sport some color, DC!

Oh, but just wait Stacey, there’s hope – spring fashions look very colorful for this year. Very girly. Hopefully we in DC will pick up the trend… I for one vow to banish black from my spring wardrobe!!
