runway madness

To continue today’s transit theme, I have a flight update: we’ve made it to the runway.

And now we wait.

For an hour +

In the plane!

This is the reason people hate airlines and we have air rage. Instead of telling us of the delay in the terminal, where we could wait in line for breakfast, they corraled us in the plane and parked us on the runway to fume and bitch.

Why would US Airways do this to its customers, piss us off to no end? Because it cares more about its precious gate space than its customers.

We don’t matter even though we pay. Thanks US Airways!

That’s actually a tactic to get you off the ground faster. If an airplane has loaded all its people, and they’re waiting on clearance to take off (usually due to congestion), the air traffic controllers will give more preference to planes that are waiting, fully loaded, out on the apron, than those that are still at the gate loading. It’s frustrating, but probably in the end got you off the ground faster.

Yeah, you can’t be in the departure queue until you’re pushed off, even if it’s just 2 feet from the gangway. That’s no excuse for the pilot not to get on the horn and explain this to passengers, mind you…
