SXSW Interactive

Am I the only DC area Web developer/blogger heading to Austin next weekend for the South by Southwest Interactive festival and convention? Tell me it ain’t so! Come on fellow geeks, chime in and let everyone know what panels and parties you’re planning on attending. SXSW has a few other options for the less technology-inclined folks, including a rather famous Music and Film festival (all three are back-to-back).

More information on the panels and parties I find interesting are here.

I wish I was going but I just can’t justify the vacation time and expense – there’s no relationship between what keeps me fed and “new media.” Take good notes and share em with us.

Notes, blog posts, and most fun of all, pics of drunken semi-famous digerati. hehe

I really, really wish I was going, but be on the lookout for other Metbloggers from Austin and LA and beyond.

How do I spot them? ;-) You got me thinking, I really should check the Austin metblogs site to see what they are posting about the festival.

According to the SXSW online registrant directory, there are five people attending from Washington, DC who chose the company type ‘Web Developer’ when they registered. Ironically, your name isn’t among those five!? Oh wait, I see… you have Web Developer in your job title. Maybe I should make that column searchable, too?

Right, well I’m representing Digital Web Magazine so I selected “Media Electronic” for the company type. I don’t really “work” there (at least I’m not paid for it) since the whole staff is made up of volunteers. As a team, we don’t really do anything, other than publish a whole lot of content about Web development practices.

Oddly enough Doug, I’ll be in Austin next weekend for a visit with a friend and a concert. I won’t be attending the conference however as my high-tech geekness ends with my electric pencil-sharpener.

I’ve got some other things in mind too, the famous BBQ and authentic texmex, the local music and art scene, the bat bridge

As far as pencils go, I concur. Although I prefer mechanical ones myself.

    I’ll be there.

Of note: the bat bridge will be a disappointment, it’s too early in the year for them to be really active yet.

Also, Doug, email me (I assume you can pick up my email addy from the admin side of this) and I can make some music/food/etc suggestions.
