Loving the Metro

I’ve seen some bizarre bizarre things here on the Metro. I’ve seen Hymn Singing Guy, I’ve seen Naked People, I’ve seen a lot of stuff, but by no means have I seen it all. In today’s Post, there’s a great section of Metro stories cut into various vignettes.

I was new into town when I was invited out to a beer tasting at the Brickskellar after work one night. I left my car at Van Dorn and we all went out drinking. The beer was great and the company even better. We left the beer tasting at 11pm and caught one of the last blue line trains back toward Van Dorn. My cousin started to look a bit green long about Pentagon City, and when we hit Braddock Road he went streaming out of the door, got sick immediately into the nearest trash can, and ran back in and caught the train before it pulled out.

I swear, that driver waited for him to finish being sick before closing those doors, and to think day, I am absolutely grateful.

What’s your Metro story?

I’m apparently the only one in DC without a great Metro story. Such a shame given how much time I spend on the thing.

It happens eventually, Goose. And it’s when you least expect it.

Ah, alcohol and the Metro…I have a story about just last night. I get absolutely plastered in Adams Morgan. So much so I need a friend of mine to walk me to a Metro stop because if I try it myself I’ll end up anywhere but.

I get to the station, Woodley Park?, I forget. Hazily looking at the signs I move to the side of the platform that I think is going in the direction of Glenmont. Hop on train. Fall asleep. A few stops down the line I hear “Red Line – Shady Grove” Shit! I get off and stumble to the other side. Get on.

Two stops later I am going to be sick…get off! Find a bench way away from anyone else and then, well…

Get back on (after 17 minute wait) Three stops later I am at Metro Center I think…get off! Find another bench out of the way and repeat…

And I did that one other time as well…

Finally I think I’m done being sick so I get back on the train and…fall asleep. I wake up about 10 minutes later and glance outside. Silver Spring. Shit! I missed the Takoma stop. Get off, move to other side, wait 15 minutes, get on and luckily had enough sense to get off at Takoma…FINALLY!

I got on the train at roughly 11:30pm and got home at 1:30am.

Moral of the story: Before you go to Adams Morgan make sure you’ve eaten something since noon and don’t follow beers with Jack and Coke.
