20 years of Don & Mike

Yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of WJFK’s The Don & Mike Show. The duo, which debuted as The Morning Zoo on then Top 40 WAVA,moved to WJFK in 1991 and have been mostly in afternoon drive on that station since. There are syndicated via Westwood One on about 30 stations across the country.

The duo has been through countless producers, program directors, interns, a handful of lawsuits, FCC violations, plus highly publicized personal problems and tragedies and remain at or near the top of the ratings through it all.

Love them or hate them, they have outlasted just about everybody in this fickle radio market. My hat is off to them.

So, what is your favorite Don & Mike bit/memory? Mine is probably Charly’s visit on the eve of Hurricane Charley a few autumns ago. My least favoite — Cousin Luigi (just not funny) and when they get too scatalogical.

I have a love/hate relationship with Don and Mike. I loved them way back when and then they started getting on my nerves. I love them now though. I love how they are so mean to their callers, it cracks me up.
