half price wine restaurants in dc

went to bistro lafayette monday night. mondays are half price wine nights and it’s a perfect way to set-off a meal. we had a couple bottles of a lovely bordeaux. usually not my thing, but am trying to expand my taste for reds beyond cabs and beaujolais…

anyway, we all should take more advantage of half price wine nights. dc foodies has a run-down of a few and here are my additions:

bistro lafayette: monday nights
clyde’s: sundays
signatures: during lunch (odd piece of news on it’s website — they have a submission form to suggest a new name for signatures…not sure why???)
the reef: wednesday nights
beacon bar and grill: wednesday nights
la tasca: half price sangria, thursday nights

fyi: these specials are subject to change, so check w/the establishment before heading over :)

Signatures is slotted to close. There was an article in the WBJ about three restaurants closing in the Penn Quarter in last month’s issue. With Signatures, it had something to do with ties to Abramoff??? I think not. Sure the guy put some money into the restaurant but surely his ties could not affect patronage. If anything, it surely would raise its profile and bring more folks in, esp. if the food, atmosphere and elite are extraordinary. Any thoughts from DC foodies on this matter?

Metrocurean had scoop on the closing from Roll Call – apparently the investors backed out. It all sounds a bit shady…

Chef Geoff’s has 1/2 price wine night on the last Monday of every month…it’s an excellent selection and great food as well.
