Mt. Vernon by candlelight
Not sure how many people have gone to see Mt. Vernon by candlelight, but I thought it was absolutely the best way to view Mr. Washington’s mansion. You only have a week left to go, but the tour was awesome. Believe it or not, the crowd wasn’t as bad, and you get to see the rarely opened to the public third floor. Heck, even the kids loved it – didn’t hear a single complaint the ENTIRE tour. The only thing missing was the hot buttered rum , but then again, we wouldn’t want to become a victim of Checkpoint Strikeforce, so maybe it was a good idea not to have hot buttered rum?
I had originally planned not to go, but thanks to this post I decided at the last minute to join some friends there tonight, and the tour did not disappoint.
Excellent! One more weekend left for any other takers. Saturdays sell out early (next Saturday is already sold out), but Friday and Sundays are usually available. Hope you enjoyed the hot cider and the bonfire.
It’s kind of short notice, but Biltmore Estate in Asheville does evening candlelight tours of the house until Dec 31. If you’ve never seen the place, it’s immense. The grounds are wonderful, and the winery is worth checking out as well.
