what’s going on at dca at 6:30 in the morning?

outside the delta shuttle terminal this morning, i was greeted by the normal sites and sounds of an airport in the morning, except a distinct and lingering smell that i began to recognize as barbecue. i thought it was odd that the restaurants inside were cooking bbq so early and that the scent was wafting in the front of the airport…

but then, my eyes diverted slight to the right and noticed a grill, accompanied by about a half dozen tables of food and people grilling at, at 6:30 in the morning!??

can anyway explain what was going on? employee appreciation day? some union mechanics on strike and deciding to bbq in protest? dca’s annual chili cookoff? really, it was quite strange…

First Thursday of the month is Delta’s day to deal with customer complaint mail. I think it adds a hickory flavor.
