Hispanic Baby Strollers Unite!

Yes Latina Breeders, here’s your chance to over-run the National Zoo yet again, this time at the National Zoo’s Fiesta Musical on Sunday.

All day you can celebrate Hispanic Heritage month at the National Zoo with the annual Fiesta! Besides the usual kid-friendly fare like storytelling, clown, and musical groups, there will be traditional Latino music like Marimba, the National Instrument of Guatemala, and Peruvian & Bolivian FolklorDances.

For al you non-breeders, be smart, don’t go. The kid-attack will be overwhelming and might even induce immaculate conception. The Zoo is only safe for us on rainy days in winter.

“Latina Breeders” – Wayan are you high? Your opening is completely inappropriate. You might be trying to come across as sarcastic and funny here but you’re really just being insulting.

The “breeders” part alone is offensive.

“Breeders” is a term the gay community uses to refer to those in the position to have children, i.e. breed, and is not usualy used insultingly.

It is a way to differenciate those who are seeking to have kids, mainly stright couples, but also gay-adopting couples. In this context, I’m refering to folks on the parent trip, or trying to get there. Folks with strollers who swarm the National Zoo every weekend till it gets too cold for little Joey.

I know what “breeders” implies. It is your combination of the use of the word with race in your opening that offends me. As if “latina breeders” are somehow different than other “breeders” and are going “over-run” the Zoo on Sunday. Which you obviously interpret as a negative.

I don’t care if a community has stamped their approval on that kind of term, Wayan, it’s got no business being used without real careful consideration and I’m not sure you’ve given it here.

So saying “Metroblogging DC: The Washington blog that’s NOT about ass-fucking!” is okay but my use of “breeders” isn’t? And why are we debating this in the public comments and not on the DC Metroblog email?

Actually, being a potential breeder – once I find someone to complete the process – I had always found the term more funny than offensive, esp. when I first heard from my gay friend. I am glad that this is discussed in the open b/c it gives me an idea of the folks who are blogging here.

Surely, the term sounds clinical. Perhaps it is the coupling of the two words, Latina Breeders, that is stepping over the line, even though you are half hispanic/latino…it’s like who can use the term “nigger”.

Anyway, that’s my two cents – not really to provide a solution but more to add commentary.
