Post’s Best Bets Out
The Post released their Best Bets online this afternoon. Some of my highlights:
Cake Love for Best Bakery
Five Guys for Best Burger
California Tortilla for Best Cheap Eats
Definite Lowlights:
Ray’s the Steaks loses to Ruth’s Chris in the Best Steaks category. Ray’s is doing some amazing and unique cooking at their little storefront in Arlington, and they lose to the bland chain? What the fuck, people? This is disrespectful.
What are your highlights? lowlights?
Good lord, the people of Washington, DC are philistines. Starbucks? Maggianos? Cold freaking Stone Creamery? Tara Thai? WHAT THE FUCK, PEOPLE, indeed!
Ugh, and The Melting Pot ranked over 1789 for Most Romantic. What the hell is wrong with people?
Maybe I’m too generous, but perhaps they simply never experienced the alternatives. I’ll add Ray’s to my ToGo list now but ‘bland chain’ or not, I can’t think of anyplace (chain or independent) where I get as consistently superb a steak as Ruth’s Chris. Or perhaps it’s an atmosphere thing – the Washingtonian claims Ray’s is moderately noisy.
My personal lowlight would be a bar in Virginia ranking over Wonderland as Best Neighborhood Bar. What the hell?! I mean, everyone’s a neighbor at Wonderland.
Don, the reason you can’t find a steakhouse as consistently excellent as Ruth’s Chris is that you haven’t been to Ray’s. Trust me. Ruth’s is nothing at all to get excited about, and frankly I’ve had better steak in my burrito at California Tortilla.
