Touching

Right at quitting time, on Rockville Pike, I saw a very touching moment. Winding down from a stressful day and trying to avoid getting all worked up at the world, I observed an older gentleman in a wheelchair riding out of the McDonalds across from White Flint Metro Station.

He had only one leg, and for some reason, he did not use his arms to push the wheels, but propelled himself forward on his one leg. He was crossing the street and almost halfway through when a tatooed youth in a wife-beater caught up with him. He started talking with the man, but he completed his crossing all on his lonesome.

They both were set to cross Rockville Pike. This time, he let the youth assist him in getting to his destination. Suddenly all my problems with the world didn’t seem so pressing anymore….
