In Teddy’s ongoing quest for a President’s Race win, he had a rough turn last Friday when he was decked by one of the Pittsburgh Pierogies during a relay race around the park. While the sight would of been a highlight to those watching the game, the clip made Sportscenter and traveled it’s way around the whole ESPN family, becoming topics for both PTI and Around The Horn. I didn’t know the incident was so scandalous.
The part I particularly like from the Sportscenter clip is the freeze-frame graphic tell everyone that Teddy still has yet to win a game. Way to rub it in ESPN.

It’s already looking like a long summer for the 3-11 Nationals but there has always been a bright spot during Nationals home games: The President’s Race. The 4th inning tradition has become a fan favorite not matter what the score is at the time. For anyone that’s been to a few Nationals game, they know that out of the four racing Presidents Teddy Roosevelt never wins. The running joke of Teddy coming in last in the standings (much like the Nationals) has become a rallying cry for fans. Fans chant his name when he comes running out of the center field gate and now the fandom has gone online.
So if you would rather see the results of last night’s President’s Race than the results of last night’s Nationals game I highly encourage you to stop on by and check out what antics Teddy’s been up to and maybe one day they’ll just let Teddy win.
Friday on ESPN’s FirsTake, there was an amusingly in-depth interview with team president Stan Kasten and President Teddy Roosevelt, trying to get to the bottom of why, in fact, Teddy has never won the Presidents Race at Nationals Park. In watching the video, it became apparent that some sort of a fix is in, despite Kasten’s protests that “it’s inevitable” that Teddy will win. I mean, slipping on a Banana in Pajamas? When was the last time the BinP were out in public? What other purpose could they have to be at the ballpark, other than to engage in some bipartisan plotting by Jefferson, Washington, and Lincoln? And what about the Baltimore Oriole and his blatant clipping move (approx. 2:00) ? Surely some sort of penalty should be assessed. I mean, just because he doesn’t have the newest ballpark on the block any more, his has to act like a blue jay? Sheesh. Well, turnabout’s fair play, as Teddy soundly whooped the bird in a match race between the two. Hah!
