Wilson Bridge Eagles fighting amongst selves like Philly fans

Eagle-on-eagle crime has reared its ugly head near the Wilson Bridge construction project. The AP (via WTOP) reports that construction workers near the Wilson Bridge saved a mother bald eagle wounded in a midair scuffle with another female.

Within earshot of traffic roaring along the Capital Beltway, a suddenly single dad is waging a quiet struggle to save his offspring - a nest of bald eagle eggs on the verge of hatching.

The eagle, nicknamed George by workers building a new Beltway bridge, lost his mate, Martha, when she was attacked by another female eagle Wednesday.

The good news is that construction workers were able to get Martha to safety. She is recovering at a Newark, Del. veterinary hospital. Federal wildlife officials are pondering what to do about George and the eggs while Martha recovers.
