Hello there!. !! Happy Thanksgiving!! :) :)
Thanksgiving is 1 of my favorite holidays, and every yr I like to get into the mood-extend the holiday, as it were-by reading "Thanksgiving novels." Not surprisingly, those stories are mostly about family, about coming together to heal old hurts and getting thanks for the gift of love. .. . --
Do You Think You're Better Off Today Than You Had been seven Yrs Ago?

The worse part of the NJ Tnpk is unfortunately the section that you always need to travel though, from Exit 7 to Exit 12.

On the way up, if you're interested in bypassing Baltimore and the Delaware tolls and a good chunk of the New Jersey Tnpk, I would suggest US301 in MD over the Bay Bridge from Annapolis and up the Delmarva Peninsula, getting on 95 going into Pennsylvania and crossing the Commodore Barry Bridge (instead of the Del. Mem. Bridge) and taking I295 in NJ to I195 (near Trenton) and getting on the NJ Tnpk at Exit 7. Depending on the traffic, I287 sounds plausible to get to the Tappan Zee if the Garden State Prkwy has traffic, which you wouldn't know unless you have the radio on and listening for traffic reports. After the Tappan Zee, get on the Merrit Prkwy in CT (bypassing I95) to I91 and the rest should be easy. This might sound crazy, but with a trusty map and GPS, it will knock off a lot of the bumper to bumper hot zones. Then again, on some days like yesterday, you can't maneuver around the traffic and the ride becomes a nightmare. :-P

Let's hear it for EZPass!

I totally use the "Avoid the DE Toll Plaza" shortcut and it is absolutely the best. If you're headed not to New England, but New York State (the Catskills and points north), I'd suggest hopping off the NJ Turnpike before the Garden State exit and taking I-287 to the border; it dumps you onto the NYS Thruway just north of the Tappan Zee. It saves a few toll stops and a lot of petrochemical fumes.

Patrick, I'll give you a wave west to the MA border once I'm on final approach to my destination.

Everyone who's traveling, have a safe trip!
