Giving Hell Burger A Heck Of A Try

Type in Hell Burger into Google and you’ll find nothing but great reviews of the place. So I don’t need to write another review on how great the burgers are.

However I did want to try it for myself- and I did last month. My friend Mike and I went down to Hell Burger and took burgers home to enjoy before The Oscars.

The place was exactly as described, an unmarked building next near the old location of Ray’s The Steaks (it’s now across the street from my office in Courthouse.)

We walk in and see the B-Movie posters, the line of fans (even on a Sunday night), and the shots of hot chocolate which are as advertised- to die for.

I ordered the BIG Poppa and I did enjoy the burger. It was a mess to eat but I enjoyed every bite. I ordered the Mac & Cheese side and it was ok but the main attraction was the burger itself.

While the burger as a whole package was delicious- I found the spice crusted burger too spiced up for me to really judge the meat. I hear that the burgers and made from leftover cuts from Ray’s The Steaks and so I wanted to taste what DC’s best burger tasted like. I needed a repeat visit.

That visit happened last week where I ordered the Soul Burger Number One… and now I’m still on the fence.

Don’t get me wrong- I think Hell Burger is great and I’m going to go there again, but maybe I need a third try to really sort my feelings out on the place.

What do you guys think- is there a favorite burger there I should try next?

Sticky Rice Bangs The Gong

When I agreed to check out my friend who was performing in a Congressional Chorus show at the Atlas Performing Arts Center I figured it would be a great night to go out. However if you haven’t been to the part of H-Street where Atlas is located you’ll find out that there’s not much in terms of food and drink. However there is Sticky Rice.

I originally found the restaurant when I wandered to NE after the Inauguration. I kept it in mind for dinner before the show.

The bare brick space fits in between a Popeye’s and an old red paint townhouse that is typical fare for the neighborhood.

Inside you’ll probably find a line, the place is often buzzing with people waiting to enjoy the sushi/Asian cuisine. A number of booths and a bar fills up the little space available on the first floor. There are stairs that lead to a second floor but I didn’t have a chance to see what kind of seating there was upstairs.

The place had a very west coast feel to it: Asian elements yet hip and modern. The wait staff was very friendly as my friend and I took a place at the bar for some pre-show grub. I ordered a selection of sushi that was top notch while my friend ordered the Sesame noodles that were excellent as well.

Tending the bar that night was the owner’s sister, who was an absolute doll and couldn’t of been any friendlier. Before we left she gave us some special shots that was a cause for gong banging as we threw them back.

Sticky Rice is a place I would definitely return to and frequent more often- if it wasn’t located in a very inaccessible part of the city. However if you are in the neighborhood I encourage you to stop in and see what Sticky Rice has to offer.

Daily DC Item: Michelle Obama Is SO Hot

1:20 PM Me: http://blogs.abcnews.com/theworldnewser/2009/04/michelle-obama.html
1:21 PM Krissy: omg dont send me propaganda

Yesterday I was talking with my co-worker about the growing popularity of Michelle Obama. While my other co-workers are writing about how overexposed Barack Obama may be, you can’t also deny that the First Lady is also turning heads with those sleeveless fashions and killer arms.

That’s all coming on the heels of a report I just saw in the Politico that reports that Michelle has a high approval rating that Barack. I don’t see too much in it since both have heads and shoulders ratings above our last President.

More proof that President Obama might be the Kennedy for a new generation- and Michelle is our Jackie O.

Daily DC Item: I’m Actually Happy To Be Purchasing Nats Tickets

untitled-1So today I’ll be logging on to get my hands on Red Sox Nationals tickets. This week I got an e-mail saying I was one of the lucky few that will be allowed to buy tickets for the June series. It’s sad that the most sought after baseball ticket in DC are for the Boston Red Sox. However as Massachusetts native I’m not complaining.

However you’d think they would at least try and throw a Nationals player in the e-mail. Make it a composite image of Adam Dunn & Big Papi. It’s like the Nationals know that if you put in the lottery you weren’t going to root for the Nats.

Will the Red Sox series be the sole highlight of the National’s season? We’ll find out soon enough!

DC Video: Georgetown Explosion Was Kinda Lame

Hey remember that explosion everyone was talking about last week?

Well one week later if you haven’t seen it you can check out a couple of video clips of it on YouTube:

I am kinda disappointed with the results- it looks like they needed a bigger boat.

More Traffic Woes Hit I-66 This Morning

I was really frustrated yesterday when my evening commute was delayed thanks to gridlock downtown caused by malfunctioning traffic lights.

Looks like those coming into DC from out west will be feeling the same pain. From the Washington Post:

A multi-vehicle accident has closed some lanes of eastbound Interstate 66 this morning between Centreville and Manassas, with rush-hour traffic backing up and a trickle of vehicles squeezing by, officials said.

A staffer at the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Smart Traffic Center said the accident involved five cars and a tractor trailer, between mile markers 48 and 49. Several people were reportedly injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Daily DC Item: Joe The Plumber Loves The Snuggie

First it was an infomercial that I laughed at every time I saw it. The it soon became a phenomenon and it actually started to gain popularity. My co-worker Kristen wrote about it in the company blog. Then I found out my blogger friend LiLu was a proud owner of one. Now DC’s lawmakers and political celebs are embracing The Snuggie.

Derek Hunter over at Americans for Tax Reform is spreading the word by encouraging conservatives like Tucker Carlson and Joe the Plumber to try it on.

I’m not going to lie, I am now this close to getting one.
