More Corrupt Politicians, Only A Day Away

I’m really pissed at DC’s Shadow Senator Paul Strauss and you should be too. The guys over at City Desk got Strauss on the phone after more than a dozen tries to get a comment on his DUI arrest only two days before his presumed re-election. Here’s his insightful comment:

Yeah. Look. Not going to comment means not going to comment. I just. You know. So. I don’t mean to be rude. But. There’s. I issued my statement. It’s going to be a historic election. We’re going to work for the democratic ticket. Happy to talk at another time. This is not a good time right now. We won’t be giving any interviews until after the election. We won’t be discussing the other thing until after the court date.

The scary thing about this situation is that he will get away with avoiding the issue. He will be elected in a landslide, just like Michael Brown will for Council At-Large and just like Marion Barry has for the past two decades. Is it so much to ask that the people of DC demand some accountability from their elected officials? Mr. Strauss, this is not rocket science. Your responsibility to tell DC the truth about your DUI and apologize to the people for defying their collective public trust in you has absolutely nothing to do with the “historic” presidential election.

But congratulations in advance for your victory tomorrow. Comments like “We won’t be giving any interviews until after the election,” are surely indicitave of how hard fought and earned your victory will have been.
