During the hearing it came out that thousands of people who likely would survive a nuclear strike would die because of lack of hospital beds and emergency facilities/equipment. And the damage to a city like DC pales in comparison with a densely populated city like NYC. I don't like to think about it. I live and work about five blocks from the White House, so I'd be one of the vaporized. DC hospitals aren’t prepared to respond to an emergency of that magnitude. How can you prepare for catastrophe like that? If someone wants to destroy our capital bad enough, they'll probably do it, which is why you can never really defeat terrorism. During the CW, or that little thing I like to call "the good old days". I have deliberately lived as far inside the blast radius for the nearest large target to my house as I can get.
