Street Cafes

Though it’s a bit too chilly today, by midweek, we’ll be into perfect sidewalk cafe weather. I remember many a night spent on the patio either at Boulevard Woodgrill in Clarendon, or at Four Courts in Courthouse, or down on I St at the Bottom Line after work.

There are a ton of great places in DC for drinks on the patio when the weather’s nice and the sun is shining, and everyone’s got a favorite. I know Wayan is addicted to Fox & Hounds, and that I’ve certainly enjoyed a long happy hour after work at Elephant & Castle, and of course there’s the roof deck of pretty much every place in Adams Morgan, or the places in Georgetown that have the pull-back walls to let the air flow in when it’s nice.

Do your friends a solid, though, and tell us where to be this week when it’s nice here below in the comments.

this is definitely one of the greatest things about living in dc, and i can’t wait for the balmy air and chance to eat outsiide, though it always means long waiting times.

i’m actually writing, though, b/c the other day i was riding my bike back from takoma park, on 14th street way up by the city’s bus garage. most of the businesses there are pretty utilitarian or are latino-owned, but suddenly i saw one section of the sidewalk populated by lots of small tables and a bunch of young white professionals looking out of place in this as-of-yet ungentrified area. the place didn’t have a name on it, at least that i could make out; just a red bowler hat as a logo above the door.

is there a story about this place?

That doesn’t sound familiar to me, Amandaa, do you have a cross-street?

thats the red derby! one of my favorite bars in dc. they actually just opened up their outdoor seating about a week or two ago. prince of petworth just did a story about the new outdoor seating.

i think its 14th and spring, but im probably wrong. its in columbia heights, about 3 blocks north of the taco place.

highly recommend going there. real laid back, cheap beer, good music. only wished i lived closer by.

On Dupont Circle there’s the Front Page (1333 New Hampshire Avenue, NW) and James Hoban’s (1 Dupont Circle). Off the circle there’s also Zorba’s Cafe (1612 20th Street), Sette Osteria (1666 Connecticut Avenue, NW) and KramerBooks (1517 Connecticut Avenue, NW).

Mackey’s is also a favorite on 1823 L Street, NW (Farragut North metro stop).
