FWIW, even though Washington RFC has been chased off the Mall they are still holding their annual Cherry Blossom Rugby Tournament for those who may wish to crack a few skulls and a few brews.

I have witnessed USDA officials in another state use 40 lbs of explosives to blow up beaver dams. The reason: not eating trees but adding to a problem of flooding and clogging city sewer lines. Prior to the explosion the USDA had to trap and kill the beavers. This did not sit well with local animal activist who believe it's possible through alternative ways for all of us to coexist. I had always thought of the beav as a cute, naturific animal who worked hard for his dolla. Is it really that much of a rodent? On cherry blossoms- I can't wait for them to come on out. I love their smell so much I serioulsy use "cherry blossom" lotion year round.

Last March I saw a beaver at the Tidal Basin over by the FDR Memorial. So I guess the Park Service didn't get all of them.
