		<description>Costco is one of the few places that might have some standing to give you lip over it; they&#039;re a membership-only shopping club and they (or you) can end that relationship at any time. And the receipt checking is in the membership agreement. So you might with the individual battle and get your membership canceled as a reward.

That aside, Costco is one of the few places where I feel like they have some hint of justification for it. There&#039;s a huge distance between the checkout counters and the exits, complete with a lot of tables and other activity in between. It&#039;s the places like Best Buy or the long-lost and not at all missed CompUSA where you&#039;d go 5 steps from receiving the receipt to being asked to present it.
