While I'm not opposed to the project, the justification they keep brining up is that they need it to turn Tysons Corner into a "walkable downtown" for Northern Virgina. However, every sketch and plan I've seen just shows the same old Tysons with Metro stops kind of thrown in. If they want to turn Tysons into a downtown, they need to make significant changes to the design of the area, regardless of whether Metro is in the mix. Take a look at the picture in this article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/16/AR2008011604242.html?wpisrc=rss_metro It's a surface parking lot with the same Tysons in the background. If this is what they're using to make their case, is it any wonder that the funding is in jeopardy?

The terminus is not at Dulles, but near Ashburn. The project would connect the nation's 16th busiest airport and the 17th largest business District (Tysons) to the 2nd largest rapid transit system in the country.
