This isn't EVEN a short-term fix. Seems more like a anaesthetic to keep the public calm until the primaries are over.

...perhaps I'll buy some foreign products (via the web, to keep the maximum flow of dollars offshore). We're all about competition in this land, right? Free-markets and all that shite? So I say "go with a winner" -- i.e., most any other national economy but ours.

We're all gonna die. Die. Die.

Two-for-one dildo sale?! Why isn't this front page news???

I for one won't be getting a check, at least under the current criteria. But if I did get one, I would probably invest it.

If we actually get a refund (it's not law yet), you might consider putting it in a savings account. It will offset the difference between the lower interest rate you are about to get and the inflation "candle" that the fed just lit.

Oh, sorry. I forgot - our economy is fine. That's what Bush told me a month ago...

I'd welcome anyone actually giving me $600 but instead it's just a goddamned loan I didn't ask for. I work hard to live on a pure cash-only basis and have a positive tax liability every April so all this accomplished for me is making sure I'll have a $600 payment to make.

I look forward to how delightful Jan & Feb 2009 are going to be when all the suckers- emm, I mean people who look forward to tax payment refunds don't get what they are used to, or have to pay for the first time in their lives.

And for those of us slightly over the cutoff, we get nothing but a subpar refund.

Joy.

How about paying down my debt? No, that doesn't stimulate the economy enough. Maybe I would blow it all on the current two-for-one dildo sale, go to Applebee's or another similarly shitty restaurant for lunch and then finish the evening by watching Matlock reruns. That Ben Matlock - he's a regular modern-day Sam Ervin.

Never mind. I take that all back. I think I will spend it on debt reduction.

All of this is just a short term fix. And truth be told, it has been happening over past 3 decades. Reagan and Clinton have just as much blame as the current administration. This is an interesting perspective on this(the midas touch)
