I'm sorry, but I am simply never going to be able to even hear the word "absinthe" without thinking of the Tucker Max Absinthe & Donuts story.

I brought some "Van Gogh" brand of Absinthe from the Czech republic a couple of years ago. The bottle had a lot of herbal sediment floating inside, which I had to strain out. It didn't turn green when I poured it through sugar. However, I did get pretty high after a small drink of it. The experience was halfway between smoking week and being slightly drunk - definitely in a happy way. If you had sat me in front of a painting I could have stared at it for hours.

perhaps the stuff WYF had was low on thujone (the active ingredient in absinthe). to see the different ratings of different brands of absinthe, look here:

All the goofy hype aside, absinthe is an outstanding and delicious beverage. Dilute it properly and please, dear god, no flaming tricks... to quote the Wormwood Society:

Friends don't let friends burn absinthe.

Haven't tried the new american stuff yet. Curious to see how it compares with the Swiss/German specimens. One review said Lucid's recipe was concocted with the "American palette" in mind. ... and that doesn't bode well at all. Reviews welcome!
