The editorial quality of the thing is irrelevant: It's uninvited and requests to stop delivery haven't worked in many cases.

I don't have this problem -- They don't distribute out my way; too few polo-wearing-uptights in the hood, I figure -- But the concern I've heard involves unresponsive circulation people and the red-flag to break-in thieves:

Go for a vacation for, say, 5-10 days and the pileup of papers on the doorstep makes it clear that nobody's home. So c'mon in, steal everything. Have a wee on the carpet. That's a good thuggy. Enjoy your stay.

To each their own, I suppose.

I'm pretty fond of the Examiner myself. It has the best city planning, real estate development, and local political coverage of all the local papers. Throw in editorials by Jonetta Rose Barras and the fact that its FREE, you've got newspaper Shangri-La.

Maybe they'd prefer neither be thrown, uninvited, onto their doorstep. It's a waste of paper and creates one more thing that needs cleaning up after, for no good reason.

The Examiner, whether it be any good or not, is the opt-out spam of the newspaper world. If I want your fishwrapper to come to my house I'll request it.

What would they prefer? The Express? I would choose the examiner any day for a long metro ride, and if they would drop one off on my doorstep, that would be great!
