When I used to live in Pentagon City and had to make that transfer at Rosslyn, it was pretty frequent to have the 1 blue train to 2 orange train ratio, and the 1 blue train only having 4 (insanely packed) cars.

I think when they're short cars (due to maintainence or whatever) they send 4 cars down the blue line, likely because they're only thinking about shuffling people out of downtown and don't give a shit about the train once it leaves DC.

I hated making that transfer. I'm so glad I moved.

My Blue Line commute above-ground (the NoVa portion of the line) was uneventful, albeit slightly but not terribly slower than usual... stuck standing in the back of the car the entire ride home though. Not sure the rationale behind running the 4-car trains during rush hour, and less frequent than usual (one Blue Line 4-car for every two Orange Line 6-cars based on what I saw on the displays at Farragut West, around 5:15pm).
