A Bachelor’s Life

My lovely wife is out of town, meeting with colleagues in Albany, so I have been living the high life here as a bachelor. I think. Honestly, I have been married for so long I have forgotten what single guys do. Other than leave the toilet seat up and sit naked on furniture, which I decided not to do after all, I was not sure what I should be doing to embrace and reclaim my freedom and singleness.

So I decided to work. I kept telling myself that I was going to go to The Liberty Tavern and have a pint but I kept setting goals for production. Just one more photo to edit. No, I will finish this whole batch and then go. Before I knew it, it was 11:00 at night and the cat needed to be fed, the sink was full of dishes and I wasn’t going to get a pint anymore than I was going to win the lottery.

Tell me, folks – what do you single people do after work? I have to know so I can line up some things to do so I can feel awkward and out of place next time I am a temporary bachelor. Leaving the seat up is fun, but it gets old pretty quickly.

Single guys live a life of chatting up hot chicks in cool foreign clubs. Its just too bad I’m not single anymore.

…Or I would take you out on the town and show you how to snake curly action even at LAX.

    Carl,

I get to do that soon as well as my wife is visiting India with friends for most of September, and after 5 years, I’ve probably lost the idea of what to do.

I know I have scheduled a full week of concerts and performances to go to during the last week of September to keep morale up, but I figured I would spend time organizing my life that I’ve never had time to, nor the will to.

But obviously, catching up with friends for drinks is definitely on the list!

A very simple answer is anything you enjoy doing that your wife probably doesn’t like/want to do. Another easy thing is to leave work with the mindset that you don’t need to be home anytime soon. There’s nobody waiting for you.

Walk around the city w/ your camera. Go see some shows you think she won’t mind missing. When was the last time you checked out the Air & Space museum – most girls I date don’t care for that one. Call up some old drinking buddies for a happy hour get together. Or the classic: Poker Night @ your place!
