Help me with my family jewels

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

I’ve got a family heirloom ring I need to get cleaned-

Stop squealing and jumping up and down. No, not for that. You can stop being excited and my darling girlfriend can breath a sigh of relief, it’s an old ring of my grandda’s that I forgot I had.

– as well as a 100 year old pocket watch that needs some repair. I’d like a recommendation rather than just trusting whatever names google spits up for jewelry repair. The watch repair listing is even more anemic and you can be DAMN sure I’m not taking this to some mall kiosk.

So, if you’ve had an item you care about serviced, where did you go that you were happy with?

Gold N Time at 1742 Connecticut Avenue (above Dupont Circle) does excellent work at very reasonable prices. They have been in that location for several years.

Boone & Sons downtown in DC is my jeweler of choice. Erik Boone helped me pick out Tiffany’s engagement ring, and educated me on sapphires in the process. The whole shop is amazing, everyone’s incredibly nice and welcoming. It’s where I recommend folks. They rock.

Benson’s downtown at 1319 F repaired my wedding ring and did a very good job. They’ve been in biz some 70 years. Also I have a friend who works there. They are closing that location and moving elsewhere in DC but give them a call and see if they can get you in or email me for his info offline.
