Lyle tonight

If you’re of a mind and persuaded by my fanboyish writeup from last year of the excellence that is a Lyle Lovett concert, there’s tickets at about all levels available for tonight’s show at Wolf Trap. At $30 for the lawn it’s not the cheapest show you’ll ever see but as you can tell from the picture above you’re getting plenty of musician for your money. This time around he’s also joined by k.d.lang, which should be interesting.

I went to a k.d. lang and Lyle Lovett concert about 15 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. They are both great performers.

However, what I see in this picture is all white people on the right and mostly black people on the left. Is that intentional, I wonder?

The first time I heard Lyle Lovett was at Folkville Ice Cream in Austin Texas in about 1980. That’s right – a regular old ice cream parlor with a tiny stage for live music, and soloist Lyle Lovett performing on it. A few years later I heard him again, with a band, at the Kennedy Center.
