Are There Fresh Tortilla in DC?
Local Blogger Jeff Harrell wants to know, Is there really no place on the eastern seaboard where you can get a decent, fresh-made tortilla? Having moved from Dallas, a land he considers the “milk and honey” area for tortilla, to otherwise acceptable DC, he’s looking for a great place to get fresh and delectable tortilla, not the crappy stuff in bags marked “Mission” from the grocery store, but real, homemade stuff.
Tell us, DC, where can Jeff get a good homemade tortilla he can take home to enjoy?
Cactus Cantina, on Wisconsin at Macomb in NW, has fresh tortillas. And great frozen swirly margaritas.
Mi Rancho in Silver Spring has some decent home made ones, as does (small voice) Tortilla Coast over on Capital Hill. The queso there just happens to be a guilty pleasure as well.
Lauriol Plaza makes a darn good fresh tortilla. 18th and T St NW, very very popular place. Same company that owns Cactus Cantina. Texan friends of mine swear it’s the best place in the area for Mexican food and margaritas. Check it out!
I second Lauriol Plaza! That’s one of my favorite things, their tortillas.
Why does this question seem ironic coming from Tom Bridge?
I dunno “Lol”, why does it seem ironic?
I do not recall Tom ever publically expressing a disdain for the tortilla…
I similarly don’t get the irony.
