I don't think the monument is meant to be exclusively to American "victims of communism," though that makes it no less retarded. Didn't we get past this idiotic need to demonize communism in the 80s after the Soviet Union fell? We really need to put up a memorial blaming deaths on an overly optimistic and flawed economic theory?

<a href="http://www.victimsofcommunism.org/history_communism.php" rel="nofollow">The website talks about "the atrocities of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Castro,"</a> none of whom are - to the best of my knowledge - economic systems, but rather people. That they dressed their fascist practices up with a frilly theory doesn't make their actions the result of communism - they're the result of their corrupt regimes.

Putting up a monument about communism gives that defective economic system way more credit than it deserves. We need a monument for all the people killed over flawed and corrupt applications of innocent ideas.

Serious? Which Americans were victims of Communism itself (and not victims of American efforts to fight the Red Menace, i.e. the Rosenbergs, soldiers sent to Korea/Vietnam, etc)? I understand the enormous scale of Russian victims, Chinese victims, etc. but I don't understand why we've erected a memorial here in the US capitol.
