Bye Bye 901 15th Street NW

This is the scene at 901 15th Street NW in DC these days. Everyone is moving out of the building. No, the structure is not about to become one less building downtown, the office edifice is being leased whole to a new tenant.

Those of us here now are moving out, moving on. My office is headed to 19th and M Street. There we’ll have better dining options, but I’ll miss the green stuff, the ice cream shops and even the Falun Gong takeovers of McPherson Square.

Not the trashy bums though.

Hey – the southwest corner of 19th and M is one of my favorite corners in the city. The building there has a huge, downward-leaning, glass facade that faces northeast, with an almost equally huge tree right out front, reflecting upwards into it. It’s actually kind of breathtaking to me, especially considering its context of office bulding after office building after office building.

And besides, McPherson Square ShmcPherson Square. Here you’ve got Dupont Circle, which is the jam.

Be sure to stay at your end of M, don’t be wandering down to 30th now.

25th and M. That’s where all the action is.
