They triage the calls. So if nobody needs medical attention, the fender benders get lower priority than, say, robberies, assaults, murders, rapes and missing kids. That's all it is. If medical attention is needed they send a first responder, which might be police, fire, medics, etc.

It's basic resource allocation. A minor accident is almost self-correcting if traffic isn't blocked by it or if you don't need a wrecker to tow something away. You swap info and drive away, allowing the insurance companies to sue each other or do whatever they do.

In MA, the hellspot where I used to live, the police wouldn't come when it sounded like my neighbor was being murdered. I am glad to live in an area where they do stuff at all without a grease-up. Worcester, MA was ultra shitty that way. The cops wanted something extra to do their jobs, the city government sucked donkey balls and the people were used to it.

That doesn't surprise me at all. I too, have been in an accident in Fairfax County, and their response time was great, and they sent a full assignment of units...

I have been in an accident in DC...and never saw the police show up. In fact, I was told by the dispatcher that they were "too busy."
