At Long Last, Spices Come to DC

penzeys.jpg Finally, you can get decent spices in the DC area, as Penzeys has come to Rockville. Now, I know that there are a bunch of you out there saying, “Dude. McCormick. Red tops. In the Baking Section of any supermarket.” Yes, but those are the spices your mom and your grandma used to make their cookies. I’m talking about real, honest to god, cinnamon, curry mixes, chili powders with multiple gradients of scofield ratings, and the best damn oregano I’ve found anywhere in the world. They’re also coming to Falls Church this summer. Now, I don’t have to go to Pittsburgh when I run out of something.

Cool. I look forward to checking this place out. Not many people know from the Scofield rating system, so I am very impressed. However, I get wonderful spices for pennies on the dollar at my local Vietnamese and Chinese groceries. Bargains there, my friend. Of course, they won’t have everything, so a store like this will be right handy, especially when they come to FC.

True, and I have indeed had to go to asian markets to get star anise and things like that, but it’s nice to know there’s one stop I can make to get a whole bunch of stuff at once.

For us, the closest Asian markets are in Falls Church anyway, so yay! Bring on the Penzey’s!

Also, if you don’t yet know the difference between Mexican and Madascar vanilla, RUN to Penzey’s and discover it. You’ll never buy vanilla in the supermarket again.

The GrandMart in Seven Corners has a good selection of spices.
