It's not Arlington, but the Dairy Godmother in Del Ray isn't far off, and it's worth the trip. Next to St. Elmo's Coffee Pub, which is also fun. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?node=cityguide/profile&id=1073090

I don't know if the Lazy Sundae mobile unit will be back but the owners of Lazy Sundae haven't owned Mexicali Blues for a while. See old article written sometime before Clare and Don's first opened: http://www.ontaponline.com/view_article.php?article_id=9944

Yeah, I think it's unfortunate that the B&J closed but the location of the store was terrible for foot traffic. On the second floor away from the street?

I thought Lazy Sundae had a mobile unit. It was out there at the end of summer last year. Does anyone know what happened to it? I thought that since they own MexiCali Blues and was expanding it, the plan was to have the traditional ice cream truck out. Unless the County didn't grant them a permit to sell ice cream from a truck...?

Hm, back when I lived in Clarendon, we could see the Blockbuster and smell the Pollo Rico from our porch, and right behind the BB was that lovely icecream shop. Now, the Orvis is where the BB was, the Pollo Rico has been replaced by condos and the "Market Commons" is where the empty lot used to be (the old, old Sears lot). There was a good bike shop on there for a while. No offense to anyone, but I'm glad I don't live over there anymore.

However, back On Topic: There isn't a Maggie Moo's over there? That surprises me. Personally, I don't like their ice cream any more than I like Krispy Kremes, but that's just me. I see what you mean about wanting to walk to a cone, but I guess the only option open to you now is good old Fudgie the Whale at Carvel/Marios. Bummer!!

Not even the chains seem to survive -- I was surprised that the Ben & Jerry's in Clarendon (Market Common) closed too.
Along the lines of ice cream, the Dairy Godmother is a good, local frozen custard place in Del Ray Alexandria: http://www.thedairygodmother.com/

Damn if I don't miss Lazy Sundae on a day like today! It used to be right there on Wilson between the Hardware store (now Ri Ra) and Mexicali Blues. No longer, they were forced out and now have a shop in Falls Church. So sad.
