Birchmere is kinda expensive for your yutes ain't it? The cost of meal and drinks and ticket prices, heck gets espensive real fast. Plus once show is over crowd is herded out quick as can be. And the seats ain't the most comfortable for old f9rts like me.

I saw the Magnetic Fields at the Birchmere. I think it attracts an older crowd because there are lots of places for people to sit down.

I've actually been a regular. I'm surprised all you hip Metblog folks haven't been. Sheesh, to have to get people across the river.

But in all honesty, yeah, the age tends to graviate towards the older, which is weird, but I guess that's what draws. I saw BT and Thomas Dolby doing a joint show last year that was cool, they even wired up The Birchmere for 5.1 sound, which was interesting (for BT).

The acts gravitate towards jazz, blues, country, folk, and some pop. Some of the better shows i've seen were Suzanne Vega, Colin Hay (of Men At Work), David Wilcox, Inti Illimani (Peruvian group), and a few others.

The guy who owns the Birchmere has an interest in the Rams Head chain as well (The Annapolis space supposedly has the old Brchmere sound system when they upgraded).

I saw Willy Mason there last week. He was the middle act of the night. It was my first time to the Birchmere. I showed up right before his set and left right after. Acoustics were good, but I wasn't too impressed with the place overall.

Yeah I should've mentioned for anyone who hasn't been: The seating in the Birchmere's main hall is all family-style tables. They serve dinner and drinks and the food is decent enough. The acoustics are good and every table has a decent view of the stage.

I had never heard of the Birchmere but if they have folks like Buddy Guy there, I will definitely check it out. Sounds like a great show!
