I took a look at MapMyRun and I found that selecting your route was a bit easier, but the interface is kinda cluttered (and commercial). I don't like the fact that I have to register and login just to save a route. Still, a nice piece of work (also based on gmaps). Have you tried the beta version?

I use mapmyrun.com, which does the same thing, but will try out Gmaps to compare!

I love Gmaps Pedometer! I use it all the time to plot running courses and to alter my training schedule. Very, very useful.
