It’s great to know that there are people like breaux out there, just itching to shoot somebody for making the astronnomical mistake of not turning right on red. let’s get that gun law repealed.

I’d like to claim the moral high ground here, but I come to a complete stop at all stop signs now because I learned my lesson a decade ago when I got a $80 ticket. After the fact it occurred to me that I was effectively making a wager where, if I won, I paid nothing and gained about 3-5 seconds. If I lost I was out $80+ on a ticket and an unknown amount on car insurance if I got points.

And now I know that there’s at least the possibility that I’ll royally annoy some impatient douchebag as I lose those 5 seconds, so it’s about a wash.

Seriously, the suggestion that people not turning promptly enough on red is “why traffic around here bites”? Laughable. It’s far more likely that some fool who didn’t leave his/her house 5 minutes earlier had a fender-bender and is blocking a traffic lane… since it’s always those same folks with their sense of entitlement that can never seem to pull out of the road when they scratch their leased expense-o-box.

Right on, Don. No obligation to go right on red. It’s the driver’s choice. I am glad you also mentioned that you stop at red lights. Probably you do the same at stop signs. Not many people do this anymore and seem surprised when folks do.

I was once rear-ended by a guy as I got to a stop sign. His excuse was that he didn’t think I was really going to stop. $2000 of insurance money later, I was still driving fine and his rates skyrockted because he drove like a jackass.

I don’t think it was this Breaux guy but it could have been, judging from how he describes his own bad driving habits.

Watch me as I care. Seriously, people in this area must have learned to drive in Mongolia, this is case A in reasons why traffic around here bites. No one is going to honk if there’s one car length in space to pull out into traffic. If someone was honking there must have been an excessive amount of room to maneuver. People here act like they’re the only people on the road and they can sit at a red light going red, I just don’t understand it.
