Chocolate Decadence

I’ll admit, I eat a lot of chocolate. I currently have a 10lb bar of chocolate from Trader Joes sitting in my kitchen. I figured I’d never get tired of chocolate, but that was before I went to the Chocolate Decadence buffet at the Ritz Carlton (1150 22nd Street, N.W.). Every Friday until the end of March they have an all-you-can-eat chocolate and pastry buffet. It’s not what you’d call cheap ($35), but it’s worth every penny. The buffet includes individual chocolate-raspberry tarts, milk chocolate-banana-passion fruit macaroons, chocolate napoleons, chocolate ├ęclairs, triple chocolate cakes, opera cakes, Black Forest cakes, and chocolate waffles served with a rum ice cream, plus lots of other stuff. I know I’m supposed to be an “adult” and all, but I have to admit, I ate until gave myself a tummy-ache. I don’t even want to look at another chocolate bar right now.

Despite the fact that they claim to take reservations over the internet, they don’t actually honor those reservations (much to the chagrin of several people I met waiting in line). So, two pieces of advice. Since the place gets super crowded, you should try to get there right at 7pm or wait til after 9pm. Second, don’t eat dinner first.

OMG! Yes, I went to it last year and nearly threw up because the chocolate desserts were sooo yummy and I couldn’t stop eating. AND I didn’t have dinner beforehand. Not only are you stoked up from the caffeine and sugar but also the chocolate flavors…oh the ecstacy, the orgasm. I thought I would never do it again but I’m doing it this Friday – I agree, get there early. Seats are few.
