When I was a kid and we had a big dump of snow gangs of us would go out with shovels and help people get their cars mobile and dig out driveways for neighbors. Or, on the flip-side, someone would be helping you. It seems like you hardly see that in the DC area--refreshing to hear someone gave you an anonymous boost.

snow is kind-a wrong kind here. back in developing home my car would never get stuck even with no roads cleaned. and here my car cant get over a tiny snowy bump. lucky this year - there was no need to use a tennis racket. someone left a snow-cleaner against the wall. but today i really needed an ice-breaker. and my car is all scratched now - i was so afraid that dc metrobloggers will write a critique if i leave any snow on my car that over-clened it!...

I got help like that once. I was caught on a one-way street that had not been plowed yet and got stuck. Sure enough, a cop pulls up behind me and I explain my situation. I half expected to get the car towed because I had quite a few outstanding parking tickets in the town and my inspection was expired. However, he simply pushed me through the snow bank with his super-strong bumper and 300-horsepower cruiser. No ticket, jail time, no pistol whipping. It was a wintertime miracle.
