Ian Mackaye Goes Off On The Council
Ian Mackaye of Fugazi lays down the funk on the DC Council when it comes to all-ages clubs. Listen to Mackaye, listen to what he has to say to the Council. Well said, Ian. It’s four minutes long, yes, but his points are darn clear: it didn’t matter what age the people at the club were, someone would’ve been hit by that bullet.
Banning all-ages clubs and events is a really dumb way of handling things in the wake of the situation that brought on the current legislation. It’s time to get the council to pay attention and work on problems that they CAN solve, not create ones that they can’t.
Tom,
Thanks for posting this. Can you give us a link to the incident that they’re referring to? I missed it and would like to know more.
Thanks.
Hey Tim,
Taleshia Forbes was killed at an all-ages club in DC on January 21st.
looks like neither he is a politician nor does he have a balanced life. so the adjectives he uses are like descriptive of himself at the end. but he has a point – imposing an age ban won’t help, if there are more serious underlying probs.
my impresiion (w a disclaimer i did not even know the guy’s name a minute ago) his motive is not the money clubs make but kids’ rights.
turist.
Great clip, thank for posting it, Tom! I love how he smacks down in the beginning that he’s a fifth generation Washingtonian and “I live in your ward”. Hardly a tourist. Not to mention the cred of Dischord Records, DC Hardcore, etc.
This whole legislation is just another indication of the inability of the council to see the forest for the trees. As Tom says, that bullet could’ve hit anyone in that club that night. Fight some crime instead…
