delurk metroblogging dc

Shame on us for not bringing it up sooner (we almost missed it!) but It’s National Delurking Week!
Our Los Angeles counterparts already got the ball rolling – as of writing this post they are up to 35 comments on their original post – and 36 on their hit followup focused on LA drivers.
C’mon DC, are your really gonna let the west coasters outdo us? And if my bi-coastal rivalry doesn’t spark the desire, remember that while we may not get paid to write these posts, the comments we get from you make it all worthwhile!
So if you’re a frequent commenter – drop us a line like the regular you are. If you’ve never commented before – today’s the day to get that “long time reader, first time commenter” feeling.
Share whatever you like, but a few things I’d like to know:
- What part of the DC metropolitan area are you representing?
- If you’re visiting us from some other locale, where might that be?
- Who or what turned you on to reading Metroblogging DC?
- What would you like to see us write more about?
Thanks in advance!
I moved to the District about 5 days ago and discovered the DC Metroblog about a month ago. Before my move I started reading every day to get a better sense of what it “felt like” here in a way that would be a little more human then just perusing the headlines from hard news sources.
I moved to the Dupont Circle area of northwest and thus far with my limited excursions I’ve been very impressed by this area and by the information I’m soaking up from the blog.
I just saw in the Post that tomorrow is the 25 anniversary of the Air Florida crash. I can’t believe that it’s been that long.

I was attending UMd then, living in LaPlata Hall. The university had closed down due to snow, which tells you how nasty of a day this was in terms of weather. My friends and I had “borrowed” trays from the dining hall and were on our way over to the hill on the golf course to go sledding. Great fun, assuming the ice on the golf pond at the bottom was thick enough to hold you. We ended up sitting in front of the tv, watching in horror. I think the thing that stick out most in my mind from that day was the image of the poor souls in that freezing river and the man who was driving by who dove in to help rescue people.
To answer some of your questions, I’m representing Silver Spring (outside of town by about a block). I’m a native to the DC area, something that feels like a rarity on occasion. I enjoy reading your blog because you post on a nice diversity of subjects relevant to the area, and don’t fall into the carefully cultivated ennui others sometimes do during their intentionally short residencies in the region.
This is a nice city and region and you do a good job covering it.
hey. met some of you at the post’s geeks unplugged thing.
thanks for ungeeking it.
Representing Van Ness! Been readin for awhile, commenting occassionally. Dunno what more i wanna see, just more randomness, thats always good. Funny is better…
Thanks Sean – We like to think of ourselves as “high functioning” geeks :)
Representing Naylor Gardens in SE here. I’m Tom’s cousin (and therefore Tiff’s, too), so I guess that’s how I heard of this place. I chime in on beer-related stuff for the most part, since that’s my hobby.
I’ve been reading the blog for many months, maybe a year. I live in MD (PG County), and work just off the Mall. I love the local photos and updates on weirdness with Metro. I rely on you guys to figure out what to do on the weekends!
Frequent reader, infrequent commenter that lives in NE by Trinity. I found about Metroblogs through Darpino since I run into him out and about drinking on occasion (we know a few of the same people).
Yous guys (commenters here) are the bestest!
I thought this was delurking week, not take-a-quiz week. — Joe
I don’t live in the area, but I used to – and I like to come back somewhat frequently. I like the site because it helps me keep on top of what’s happening. And if I ever move back, it’ll be a good source of info.
I like to watch…
Hah! Whatever you say Chance.
