What sucks?

Okay, I know – the answer to that is “a lot” but I was more specifically wondering about this plate. ITSUX. Okay… is that “it sucks” as in the big overpriced Mercedes SUV?That’s some serious buyer’s remorse if so. Is it “IT sucks” as in information technology? I do not necessarily disagree. “It sucks” as in breast cancer, since that’s a breast cancer plate? I don’t disagree there either, though I wonder how many sufferers would describe being diagnosed with breast cancer as “sucks.”

While acknowledging that I am perhaps not the MOST typical possessor-of-breasts…

I am sure the one word that would feature most prominently in my vocabulary should I be diagnosed with breast cancer is “sucks.” As in, “vomiting all day from chemo sucks,” “losing all my hair sucks,” “only having one boob sucks,” etc. I mean, sure, being diagnosed with any type of cancer is terrifying, and that large, overwhelming trauma sort of outweighs the word “sucks,” but in the meantime, you’ve got to get through the day-to-day slog of treating it. And I would guess (having not been through a long and traumatic illness myself), that when it’s such a constant presence in your life you become somewhat numb to the terror and just have to focus on one more chemo treatment, one more round of radiation, one more surgery. And those things? They suck. And so I would think that “it sucks” is an apt description of the whole experience, particularly if you take it as sort of a wry understatement.

(I welcome correction of my ignorance from any actual cancer survivors who may be reading.)
