Parking in Georgetown

I have to meet some folks for dinner tonight near Wisconsin and M Street. Are there any places folks know to park that are:
a. cheap
b. close
c. free

or possibly some combination of any two of those above requirements? Usually I find myself just driving through on my way somewhere so I am not too familiar with parking in the area, except that I know it’s difficult and/or expensive. Thanks for your help!

From M and Wisconsin, go downhill on Wisconsin all the way to the end and take a right turn (instead of going straight into the pay parking lot). That’s Water Street or something like that. If you drive for a bit you can usually find some available metered parking on your left.

Remember to back in to the space because it’s a $25 ticket if you don’t and they ticket fairly late there (until 8 I think). Have some quarters and maybe a pen, paper and tape (in case you have to leave a note for a broken meter that won’t read your money).

There’s usually always parking on Thomas Jefferson, so if you’re unable to find parking where Mike suggested, continuing going left and turn right at TJ (across from the Harbour).

Wisconsin itself, south of M st., is very parkable until about 6:30.

Drive to your nearby Metro Station. Park. Ride a train to either Foggy Bottom or Rossyln. Walk to the restaurant. Eat and drink till your hurt. Walk back to Metro. By the time you get back to your car you’ll be sober and had a little exercise, not to mention, arrived & left G-Town faster and with way less stress than driving there.

The garage next to the Lowe’s on Water Street is $5 after 4 PM. Not cheap enough? Consider that it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than the $25 ticket you’ll get when you inevitably don’t make it back to your meter in time.

The open lot down on Water St. is also $5 flat rate after 4 PM.

    Options, options.

    (1) Nice and warm weather today. Park in Rosslyn, walk across Key Bridge.

    (2) Metro to GWU-Foggy Bottom or Rosslyn, catch short blue bus ($1.50).

    (3) U.S. Parks parking near Row House accessible from Rock Creek Parkway / Virginia Ave behind new House of Sweden. Meter parking.

I ended up parking in the garage under the Georgetown mall. I wanted to find one of the cheaper options, as folks had suggested, but unpredicted backups on M Street made me late and I chose the first close lot.

These backups weren’t the typical M Street traffic. I think there were two big clots of cops with people pulled over, then there was construction. I bargained for bad traffic, but not that bad!
