When he’s at the Warner. Yeah, they used his name in the tour, but it’s his sidekicks (most of whom aren’t funny) that are appearing without him on Friday at the Warner. Thankfully they put in large caps that he wasn’t coming, and that saved me from getting tickets.
Is Dane Cook really funny? I had not heard of him before your post and went to his web site. The videos I saw showed him working really hard for the audience but mostly playing off his stature of apparently being the current popular young male goodlooking comedian in a silly movie (“Employee of the Month,” I think?). These movies don’t do much for me so I don’t really know the ators but I think other similar people everyone else thinks are funny who also did the silly movie circuit might be Pauly Shore, Tom Green and Howie Mandell (back in the days when he would put a rubber glove on his head and blow it up). Also, anyone in a Police Academy movie…
Sorry if this seems harsh, Tom, but I didn’t see much substance there. Can you point me to something I should see to appreciate this guy? He doesn’t seem to be anywhere close to the caliber of Bill Cosby, Nipsy Russell or Henny Youngman.
Oh, yeah – weird that they would use his name without his appearance, though. Sorry to go off on a tangent before. It’s like using the name of that guy in “Police Academy” to promote the new film in that series without him being in it. There – I tied it all together…
Eh, he’s alright. His early stuff was just over the top ridiculous, like he was trying way too hard (“Does anybody like me yet?”). I saw him live about a year ago and it was pretty funny, but he obviously thinks he’s a lot funnier and more interesting than he really is.
Is he Lewis Black? Nope. Cosby? Couldn’t hold his jock. Wil he be remembered for his groundbreaking early comedy at his funeral? Not a chance.
But I still think he’s funny.
